What Moss Is (Different From Algae)

Moss thrives in shaded, moist conditions — north-facing slopes and areas under tree canopy are most vulnerable in our climate.

For algae staining:

– Never pressure wash asphalt shingles — high pressure strips granules and dramatically shortens shingle life
– Protect landscaping below with tarps before applying any bleach solution

For moss:
Treatment is similar but more intensive, and physical removal may be needed before chemical treatment. Moss should be loosened and removed carefully (with a soft brush, not a stiff scraper) before treatment.
